Biographical Information[edit]

Monk Sherlock hit .324 in his one season with the Philadelphia Phillies, playing mostly first base. 1930 was the height of the lively ball era, and the team as a whole hit .315. Regular first baseman Don Hurst hit .327, and kept the position for several more years.

He had played for Quebec in 1924.

A 1930 newspaper refers to him coming from the Mission club up to the majors. He had hit .336 for Mission in 1929.

His brother, Vince Sherlock, is famous for hitting .462 in his 26 at-bats in the majors in 1935.
