Biographical information[edit]

Outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald is the son of Mike Fitzgerald, the first baseman (there was also a contemporary catcher with the same name who had a much longer career, but they are not related). His brother, also called Mike Fitzgerald, played in the minor leagues.

From July 9-23, he had a streak of five consecutive games in which he hit a home run. The streak included the All-Star break, so it appears longer than it was. Still, it was a new record for a rookie with the Giants, a rather nice distinction given the outstanding rookies who have played for the franchise over the years. He was also the team's first player with a five-game homer streak since Barry Bonds in 2004. He was named the National League Rookie of the Month for July after slugging .849 with an OPS of 1.239 during the month. On August 5th, he hit his first career lead-off homer, going deep off Patrick Corbin of the Washington Nationals to key a 4-1 win.
