Howard Earle "Twink" Twining played one game for the Cincinnati Reds in 1916. Having attended Swarthmore College from 1913-1915, he was the first player out of Swarthmore to come to the majors.

Twining makes the Reds "all name team" at the Red Reporter site, along with Mysterious Walker, Pinky Pittenger, Pee Wee Wanninger and Frenchy Bordagaray.

An "H. Earle Twining" was a prominent dermatologist in the 1950s in Philadelphia. Twink's other nickname was Doc, so presumably this is the same person.

The publication The Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and the American Culture 2002 states that in September 1915 Doc Twining pitched an exhibition win for Salisbury over the 1915 Philadelphia Athletics in front of 2,500 spectators. The SABR biography of Al Burris also mentions this game, saying that Salisbury was part of the independent Peninsula League which featured a number of future major leaguers.
