Biographical Information[edit]
Tub Welch broke into the big leagues on June 12, 1890 with the Toledo Maumees. He batted .287 with them over the course of 35 games. He didn't play another major league game again until 1895 when he came back with the Louisville Colonels, and hit .242 in 47 games, giving him a .261 career batting average.
His nickname "Tub" comes from the word "tubby," in reference to his large size.
