Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Tsuyoshi Sugano has played for the Japanese national team and in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Sugano hit 28 doubles in college to broke Taisei Takagi's record for the Tokyo Big Six University League. [1] After college, he played for Hitachi and was named to the Best Nine for the industrial leagues. [2] He made the Japanese squad for the 2017 Asian Championship, hitting 5th for them. He hit .429/.467/.857 with 3 triples, 6 runs and 8 RBI in five games. He was the only player in the event with multiple triples and was second on Japan in RBI, one behind outfield mate Kazuki Kamizato. In the Gold Medal Game, he was 0 for 3 with a walk in a 6-1 win over host Taiwan; he had driven in five in the prior game against Taiwan. [3]

Sugano was picked by the Chiba Lotte Marines in the 4th round of the 2017 NPB draft. [4] He debuted on Opening Day, starting in left and hitting 6th. He was 1 for 3 with a walk that day, getting his first NPB hit off Takahiro Norimoto. Four days later, he took Shuta Ishikawa deep for his first home run. [5] He was only at .203/.329/.348 after 26 games, though, but was playing solid defense (40 PO, 3 A, 0 E).
