The Traverse City Pit Spitters joined the summer collegiate Northwoods League in 2019 as an expansion team and were an instant success, winning the championship in their first season. They replaced the Traverse City Beach Bums, who played for 13 seasons in the independent Frontier League, as the main tenants of Wuerfel Park.
