Biographical Information[edit]

Tootie Myers was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the supplemental first round of the 1997 amateur draft, 52nd overall. Born in Germany, he grew up in Petal, MS, where he attended the local high school. An infielder and outfielder, he failed to hit consistently in the minors, batting .230 for the GCL Expos in 1997 and .240 for the Vermont Expos in 1998, failing to hit a home run either year. He found some power in 1999, with 11 home runs in 515 at-bats for the Cape Fear Crocs of the South Atlantic League, but his batting average was a paltry .223.

Still, Myers kept moving up a level every year, reaching high-A with the Jupiter Hammerheads in 2000. He hit .243 with 16 doubles, 9 triples and 7 homers in a difficult hitting environment, giving the Expos some hope that he might finally be turning things around. Sent to the AA Harrisburg Senators in 2001, he raised his batting average to .263 with 10 homers, giving him a respectable .417 slugging percentage (although he never was one to draw walks, his career-high being 41 in 2000 at a time when he was striking out well over 100 times a year). That was his last season in organized baseball.
