Biographical Information

Tony Malinosky came to the majors 30 years earlier than any other player from Whittier College. He was at Whittier during the time that Richard Nixon went there.

Later, Malinosky came to the majors with the 1937 Brooklyn Dodgers managed by Burleigh Grimes. Malinosky was up with the team during the first half of the season, appearing in 35 games and splitting his time in the field between third base and shortstop.

During the second half of 1937, he played at Rochester as the backup to Marty Marion. Malinosky hit .342 while Marion hit .246.

When Billy Werber died in 2009, Malinosky became the oldest living major leaguer. An article about him, written in February 2009, stated that he lived in Oxnard, CA [1]. His major league career was derailed due to an injury. After baseball he was drafted in the Army and served at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he worked at North American Aviation and then owned and operated a trailer park in California.

He passed away in Oxnard in 2011, at age 101. Connie Marrero succeeded him as the major leagues' oldest former player.
