Biographical Information

Tony Fossas was already 30 years old and on his third stint in the Texas Rangers organization, the team that had originally drafted him back in 1979, when he made his major league debut in 1988. In spite of his late start, he managed to pitch 567 times in the major leagues, all as a reliever. A prototypical LOOGY, he only logged 415 2/3 innings in his 12 seasons, and never had more than 3 wins or 2 saves in any year.

He was the pitching coach at Florida Atlantic University in 2005-2008. He moved to the minor leagues with the Dayton Dragons in 2009-2011 the Billings Mustangs in 2012 and Dayton again in 2013-2014. In 2015, he became the pitching coach with the Daytona Tortugas. In 2018, he was the minor league pitching coordinator for the Reds, but the firing of major league manager Bryan Price on April 19th had a domino effect throughout the organization, and as a result he was asked to become the pitching coach of the AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos on an interim basis.
