Biographical Information[edit]
Tomoyuki Kaida was drafted in 2011.
After college, Kaida signed with Nippon Life Insurance in the industrial leagues. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he starred for the Japanese national team, going 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA, allowing 5 hits and fanning 9 in 9 1/3 IP. He got the win over the Greek national team. He was then drafted by the Orix Buffaloes in the 4th round of the 2011 NPB draft, 3 rounds after World Cup teammate Ryoichi Adachi. He signed for a 50 million yen signing bonus and a 12 million yen yearly salary. He debuted on April 1, 2012, relieving Hayato Terahara in the 8th inning against the Softbank Hawks. He walked Nobuhiko Matsunaka before being relieved by Yoshihisa Hirano.
