Biographical Information[edit]
Tomotaka Tamaki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.
Tamaki was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the third round of the 1993 NPB draft, but he spent his first 5 seasons in the minors. He went 5-for-17 in 1999, and he had a 1-for-12 record in 2000. The Carp then released him, and he signed with the Orix BlueWave. Tamaki recorded a solid .302/.348/.326 batting line in 49 games in 2002 (though he only had 48 plate appearances, primarily backing up Koichi Oshima at 2B and Scott Sheldon at 3B), but he then went 1-for-16 in 2003. He only played 10 games combined in the next two seasons, and he announced his retirement in 2005.
He was the fielding coach for the Carp from 2015 to 2018 and in 2021, and he coached their minor league team from 2011 to 2014, from 2019 to 2020 and in 2022. The Uni-President Lions named him their minor league fielding coach in 2023, and he became the fielding coach for the big club in 2024.
Overall, Tamaki hit .224/.269/.265 with 22 hits in 6 seasons in NPB.
