Biographical Information[edit]
Tommy Richards played in the minors and became a college coach.
Richards was an All-league football defensive back in high school in addition to his baseball play. [1] He hit .300 as a college sophomore then won West Coast Collegiate Baseball League MVP after hitting a league-best .364. [2] As a junior, he batted .256/.299/.372 and then .289/.364/.373 as a senior.
The Baltimore Orioles took him in the 24th round of the 2012 amateur draft, one pick before Beau Maggi. The scout was Brandon Verley. [3] He hit .221/.260/.266 in 34 games for the GCL Orioles, fielding .967 as their main second baseman. He batted .248/.324/.348 for the independent Gateway Grizzlies in '14, being used as a utility infielder. He was assistant coach at Lindenwood University - Belleville in 2015-2016 and at Whitman College from 2017-2020. [4] He then became head coach of Bushnell University. He was also the head coach of the Springfield Drifters of the West Coast League.[5] He was at Bushnell through 2024, when he left to become assistant coach at WSU. [6]
