Biographical Information

Tommy Richards played in the minors and became a college coach.

Richards was an All-league football defensive back in high school in addition to his baseball play. He hit .300 as a college sophomore then won West Coast Collegiate Baseball League MVP after hitting a league-best .364. As a junior, he batted .256/.299/.372 and then .289/.364/.373 as a senior.

The Baltimore Orioles took him in the 24th round of the 2012 amateur draft, one pick before Beau Maggi. The scout was Brandon Verley. He hit .221/.260/.266 in 34 games for the GCL Orioles, fielding .967 as their main second baseman. He batted .248/.324/.348 for the independent Gateway Grizzlies in '14, being used as a utility infielder. He was assistant coach at Lindenwood University - Belleville in 2015-2016 and at Whitman College from 2017-2020. He then became head coach of Bushnell University. He was also the head coach of the Springfield Drifters of the West Coast League. He was at Bushnell through 2024, when he left to become assistant coach at WSU.
