Biographical Information

Tommy Cason peaked at AA in 1973, then ended his career the next year with knee surgery.

Cason was picked by the Kansas City Royals in the 30th round of the 1968 amateur draft. He did not sign, then was chosen by the Boston Red Sox in the 15th round of the 1971 amateur draft. Cason was assigned initially to the Pawtucket Red Sox but hit only .217/.275/.252 in 69 games. He split 1972 between Pawtucket (.245/.322/.319 in 55 G) and the Winston-Salem Red Sox (.290/.364/.366 in 69 G). The little outfielder remained at AA for all of 1973, hitting .250/.350/.323 for the Bristol Red Sox; his outfield mates included Jim Rice and Fred Lynn. He had 11 assists in 68 games in the outfield. He ended his career with the 1974 Winston-Salem Red Sox, batting .289/.328/.366 in 34 games before a career-ending knee injury on May 22nd. He later became a professional golfer.
