Biographical Information

Tom Walker had some success at the major league level, going 15-8 for the Cincinnati Reds in 1904 and 9-7 for the Reds in 1905, both years under manager Joe Kelley.

Walker was born in Philadelphia, PA, and pitched in the minors as early as age 15 in 1897. In 1901 he was with Binghamton and came to the majors with the Philadelphia Athletics for one game (8 innings). He spent 1902 with Binghamton and then was 26-7 in 1903 with Louisville.

After his 1904-1905 years in the majors, he was 10-4 with Williamsport in 1906. He pitched again for Williamsport, and with Wilmington, in 1907.

Although he had substantial success in 1904, he is also remembered for hitting 18 batters that year. It was nowhere near the record, though, as quite a few pitchers in the 1900-1910 era hit more than that in a season.

He is also remembered for coming to bat 77 times in 1904 without getting an RBI, although that, too, is not a record since Oscar Jones came to the plate 137 the same season without an RBI. In addition to his playing record, he worked one game as a fill-in umpire in 1905.
