Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Van Extergem played in the First Division and for the Belgian national team.
Van Extergem was 0 for 4 with a walk for the 2007 Antwerp Royal Greys. [1] He was 0 for 1 with a walk for Belgium in the 2007 European Junior Championship. [2] In 2008, he hit .167/.327/.167. During '09, he batted .273/.333/.295. He went 0 for 2 in the 2009 European Cup. [3] He became a starter for Antwerp in 2010, at age 20, and hit .184/.308/.204 while fielding .926. He hit .224/.331/.273 in 2011, fielding .926, and going 8 for 11 in steal attempts. He scored 31 runs in 37 games and led the league with 13 sacrifice hits. He was 1 for 2 for Belgium in the 2011 European Championship Qualifiers. [4]
Tom produced at a .219/.370/.260 clip in 2012 and fielded .929. Despite his low average, he made Belgium's squad for the 2012 European Championship. He got into two games. He replaced Benjamin Dille at second base late in a 13-3 loss to the Czech national team. Against Croatia, he pinch-hit for DH Robin Roevens in the 8th inning of a 3-2 win and hit into a force against Jadran Dadić. [5] In '13, he hit .217/.373/.255 and fielded .957; he had 25 walks in 30 games. That appears to have been his last season as he did not play from 2014-2018.
