Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Poquette was a member of the 1976-1978 Kansas City Royals, winners of three straight AL West Division titles. He hit .302 in 1976 to be named an outfielder on the 1976 Topps All-Star Rookie Team, then followed that by hitting .292 in 1977. He had little power or speed, however, He fell to .211 in 1978 and was traded to the Boston Red Sox early in the 1979 season, bouncing back to hit .331 in 63 games. It was his last hurrah, however, as he missed all of 1980 with an injury and played sparingly the next two years, and hit .152 and .145 to wash out of the major leagues.
Poquette was a coach for the Omaha Royals in 1988-1990. Next, he managed the Eugene Emeralds in 1991, the Appleton Foxes in 1992, and Memphis Chicks in 1993. He was the hitting coach for the Omaha Royals again in 1994-1995, the Royals' minor league hitting coordinator in 1996-1997, and hitting coach for the big-league Royals in 1997-1998. Returning to managing, Poquette skippered the Charleston Alley Cats in 1999 and the Spokane Indians in 2000-2002. He was then a coach for the AZL Royals II in 2003 and the AZL Royals in 2004-2007.
