Biographical Information[edit]

Tom McCarthy pitched 40 games in the majors with a decent 3.61 ERA. He had one career save; it came on October 2, 1988 as a member of the Chicago White Sox against the Kansas City Royals. He pitched the last 3 innings in a 5-1 win, giving up 2 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2. Shawn Hillegas got the win.

McCarthy was born in West Germany. During his time in the majors (between 1985 and 1989), there were three other major leaguers who had been born there: Craig Lefferts, Bob Davidson and Mike Blowers. Davidson, who made his debut the same month as McCarthy, was born in the same German state, Rhineland-Palatinate.
