Biographical Information

Illinois native Tom Kane spent eight seasons in professional baseball from 1932 to 1939.

Kane spent ten days, the total of his big league career, with the Boston Bees from August 3, to August 13, 1938. He spent two games at the 2B position, with no errors but also had no hits in four at-bats.

Kane was then traded to the Washington Senators for Jim Hitchcock on August 17, of this same season. Tom spent the rest of his pro career in the minor leagues, mostly in class A ball and primarily in the Southern Association. His best season appeared to be in 1933 when he hit .293 for the Birmingham Barons.

Also in his 1938 season, he was converted to pitching by the Hartford Laurels of the class A Eastern League. He had a 2-5 record with a 5.76 ERA and would finish out his pro career in 1939 as a player-manager for the Tallassee Indians of the class D Alabama-Florida League, handling the club for 87 games and hitting at a .297 mark.

Tom finished out his professional career at the age of 32 with 876 minor league games under his belt, hitting right at the .250 mark with 12 home runs.
