Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Tom Harmon was drafted 2nd overall in the secondary phase of the 1970 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals. He would play five seasons in the Royals chain, and three seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals system. He was a coach for the Oklahoma City 89ers in 1978, getting 1 AB. He managed the Central Oregon Phillies in 1979, the Spartanburg Phillies in 1980 and the Spartanburg Traders in 1981. Harmon was the youngest coach in the National League when he was a Chicago Cubs coach in 1982. He managed the Midland Cubs in 1983.

Harmon went into private business from 1984 to 1988, then returned to baseball. He has been an assistant coach at the University of Texas since 1989. He was inducted into the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 1993.
