Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Todd Zacher played in the San Francisco Giants system from 1981 to 1983, reaching AAA.
He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 28th round of the 1980 amateur draft, though he did not sign. A year later, he was taken by the Giants in the 23rd round of the 1981 amateur draft and signed.
He began his career that year, playing for the Clinton Giants and hitting .188/.284/.213 with no home runs and 19 RBI in 59 games. He fielded .943 at third base, where he led the team in games played. The next year, also with Clinton, he hit .239/.336/.309 with four home runs, 40 RBI, 88 runs scored and 36 stolen bases (caught 12 times) in 134 games. Playing primarily shortstop and second base, he made 38 errors. He was 9th in the Midwest League in runs. Only two Giants farmhands (Dan Gladden and Everett Graham) stole more bases and only Gladden had more runs. He split 1983 between the Fresno Giants (94 G, 24 SB, 7 CS, .215 BA) and the Phoenix Giants (12 G, 2 SB, .265 BA) and hit .219/.325/.292 with 26 stolen bases in 106 games overall. He was 4th in the Giants chain in swipes, behind Gladden, C.L. Penigar and Ted Wilborn.
Overall, he hit .222/.322/.284 with 66 stolen bases (in 88 tries) and 233 hits (only five home runs) in 299 games. He scored 175 runs and drove in 101. He played 103 games at SS (.927 FLD%), 97 at 3B (.930) and 87 at 2B (.941). He later worked for Federal Express for 29 years.
