Biographical Information[edit]

The son of Don Demeter, 1B/OF Todd Demeter was selected in the 2nd round of the 1979 amateur draft by the New York Yankees, but never made the majors.

When Todd signed in 1979, the Yanks paid him a bonus of $208,000, a record at the time. Source: Evolution of the Bonus Record.

Todd played seven seasons in the minors, playing almost exclusively in Class A, except for 34 games in AA with the Nashville Sounds in 1983. He had over 70 minor league home runs with a batting average that was sometimes over .250 and sometimes under. He mostly played first base.

Demeter attended Grant High School in Oklahoma City, OK and after baseball worked for his father's company. He received a college degree in 1995. He died on November 7, 1996 after a six year battle with Hodgkin's disease.
