Biographical Information[edit]

Tinsley Ginn played for the 1914 Cleveland Naps. He was known as "Rucker Ginn", Rucker being his middle name.

Ginn was born in Royston, GA, northeast of Atlanta near the South Carolina border. He attended the University of Georgia during 1911-14, and his time there overlapped with that of Homer Thompson, Tim Bowden and Tommy Thompson.

His brother, Starke Ginn, also played for the University of Georgia and played in the minors for several years.

Ginn made his major league debut on June 27, 1914 at age 22 for manager Joe Birmingham. Players on the team included Nap Lajoie and Joe Jackson.

He died in 1931 shortly before he would have turned 40.

"Rucker Ginn, captain of the University of Georgia team, cousin of Ty Cobb, and considered one of the most promising prospects in the Southern colleges, has signed to play with the Naps and will join the club in two weeks. He is a left-handed hitter and said to be speedy. Two years ago Clark Griffith tried to sign Ginn, but at that time the collegian, whose parents are wealthy, did not look with favor on base ball as a profession." - Sporting Life, June 13, 1914
