Biographical Information[edit]

Tim Maki was a first-round pick who never got past A ball.

The Texas Rangers took Maki 14th overall in the 1980 amateur draft, between two others who never made the big leagues, Lebo Powell and Don Collins. Texas did better with two later pitchers - Dwayne Henry and Walt Terrell. The Indiana native made his pro debut with the GCL Rangers and went 2-7 with a 4.42 ERA, walking 44 and throwing 14 wild pitches in 57 innings. He led the Gulf Coast League in wild pitches and tied for second in losses, one behind Rich Buonantony.

The right-hander was no better in 1981, going 3-7 with a 5.23 ERA for the Asheville Tourists with 47 walks in 74 innings. He split 1982 between the Burlington Rangers (2-7, 4.04) and GCL Rangers (0-1, 2.65). In 1983, he pitched for Burlington (0-1, 8.10, 27 BB in 30 IP) and the Salem Redbirds (2-3, 7.16, 37 BB in 49 IP, 15 WP). Despite his limited workload, he tied for 4th in the Carolina League in wild pitches. The wild hurler was back with Salem in 1984 but allowed 14 hits, 16 runs (9 earned), 6 walks and 3 wild pitches in 6 2/3 innings to end his career.

Maki was just 9-26 with a 5.41 ERA in 84 minor league games, walking 203 in 302 2/3 IP.
