Biographical Information[edit]
Tian-Lin Chang played in the TML and the CPBL.
Chang was signed by the Jungo Bears when they were founded in 1993. He batted .238/.299/.323 with 11 stolen bases in his rookie year. The speedy outfielder extended his stable performance, hitting .242/.282/.342 and .248/.307/.303 respectively in the next two years. He won his first CPBL Gold Glove award as an outfielder this year. Chang recorded a .252/.322/.330 batting line, and stole 17 bases in 1996. The Taipei native batted .249/.310/.320 with 11 steals in 1997. He participated in the All-Star Game for the first time in his career, and also won his second CPBL Gold Glove award in the same year.
When the Taiwan Major League was founded in 1998, Chang jumped to there and joined the Kaoping Fala. He stole 41 bases with a .272/.327/.325 batting line in the first year in the TML. The Fala traded Chang to the Chianan Luka for Chu-Ming Lee in the beginning of the 1999 season. The trade didn't influence Chang's performance. He still hit .293/.343/.413 with a league-leading 36 steals. He set the TML record for most triples in a season with 8, and won the Gold Glove again. In 2000, Chang hit .270/.351/.368 and led the league in games played and steals again. He also won the Gold Glove for the third consecutive years. His batting declined to .193/.286/.229 in 2001, but he still stole a league-leading 21 bases in this year. The 35-year-old Chang only played 36 games in 2002 season, and he decided to retire instead of joining the CPBL again when the two leagues merged in 2003. He was the TML all-time career steals leader with 131.
Overall, Chang had hit .255/.316/.336 with 201 steals in ten seasons in the CPBL and the TML. He ranked 5th in career stolen bases in CPBL history (as of 2023), behind Kan-Lin Huang, I-Tseng Lin, Cheng-Min Peng and Sheng-Wei Wang.
