Biographical Information[edit]

Teruo Ishihara represented Japan in the 1954 Asian Championship. He was signed by the Toei Flyers in 1956, and soon became their starting third baseman. He hit .250/.300/.298 in his rookie year. Ishihara then recorded a .249/.279/.293 batting line with a league-leading 23 sacrifice bunts in 1957. He also broke the NPB record for 142 consecutive fielding chances without an error. The Narita native extended his stable performance, when he batted .229/.260/.269 and led the league in bunts with 18 again. He also broke the record he set the prior year with 154 consecutive fielding chances. Ishihara hit .232/.271/.275 in 1959, then announced his retirement after his batting line fell to .143/.160/.163 in 1960. He then became a coach for the flyers from 1961 to 1965.

Overall, Ishihara had hit .239/.276/.282 with 2 home runs in 5 seasons in NPB.
