Biographical Information[edit]

Terry Rupp is a college coach.

Rupp was a high school teammate of Tino Martinez. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 16th round of the 1989 Amateur Draft after starring at the University of Tampa. The first basemen spent two years in the Padres minor league system. He hit .242/~.332/.372 for the 1989 Spokane Indians. In 1990, he batted .249/.336/.349 with the Waterloo Diamonds, striking out 120 times in 358 AB. His 13 times hit by pitch tied him for second in the Midwest League.

He was then released and retired as a player. After his playing career ended Rupp moved on to coaching. He spent the 1993-1995 seasons as the hitting coach/third base coach for the Oneonta Yankees. In 1996 Rupp became head coach of his alma mater, the University of Tampa. He would lead the team for five seasons bringing them to a 215-80 record. Rupp would also bring the team to the 1998 Division II College World Series Championship. In 2001 Rupp moved on to the head coach position at the University of Maryland. Rupp would struggle at Maryland, though, producing only two winning seasons before resigning in 2009. He left the Terps with a 227-271 (61-183 in conference) record. He then became Athletic Director at Jesuit High School [1].
