Terry Rooney

Biographical Information[edit]

Terry Rooney is a college coach.

Rooney was 12-4 in college; he finished second in Radford history with 79 games pitched. He was pitching coach at George Washington University in 1997 and at James Madison University in 1998-1999. In 2000-2001, Terry was pitching coach for Old Dominion University. He recruited Justin Verlander while there.

Rooney's next stop as pitching coach was Stetson University in 2002-2003. From 2004-2006, he was pitching coach at the University of Notre Dame; in 2004, his school had a 3.43 ERA, 9th in the country. He worked with Jeff Samardzija, Jeff Manship and John Axford.

In 2007-2008, Terry was associate head coach at Louisiana State University. He helped recruit the 2007 class, which was ranked #1 in the country by Collegiate Baseball. The school went to the 2008 College World Series.

Rooney got his first head coaching job in June 2008 when he took over the reigns of the University of Central Florida. He went 261-209 and was named American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2014. In 2017, he left to become an assistant at the University of Alabama. After one season at Alabvama, Rooney was an assistant coach at University of Houston from 2018-2021, then moved to Purdue University in 2022-2023. He then moved to Louisiana State University as Associate Director of Program Development and Recruiting in 2024.
