- 1892 - John Clarkson (pictured) notches his 300th win, the fifth major league pitcher to have done so.
- 1934 - Dizzy Dean and Paul Dean both toss shutouts in a doubleheader - Dizzy snips a three-hitter and Paul a no-hitter. Dizzy says "If'n Paul had told me he was gonna pitch a no-hitter, I'd of throwed one, too."
- 1960 - Masaichi Kaneda strikes out his 3,000th batter, the first pitcher in Nippon Pro Baseball history to whiff that many.
- 1973 - Jim Rice of the Pawtucket Red Sox socks a three-run homer to beat the Tulsa Oilers, 5-2, in the 1973 Junior World Series.
- 2008 - The New York Yankees play their final game at Yankee Stadium; they had gone 4,133-2,430-17 in their 85 years there.
