December 27: Today's featured birthday is that of Bobby Klaus, who turns 87.
- 1904 - Spitballer Jack Chesbro throws a wild pitch that costs the New York Highlanders the 1904 AL pennant. Lou Criger scores the key run that gives the game and title to Boston.
- 1920 - In one of the most famous World Series games ever, Elmer Smith hits the first grand slam in Series history and Jim Bagby hits the first home run by a pitcher. The game is most noted, though, for an act by their teammate, 2B Bill Wambsganss, who turns an unassisted triple play.
- 1926 - Grover Cleveland Alexander comes out of the bullpen to strike out Tony Lazzeri in the clutch and help the Cardinals top the Yankees in the 1926 World Series.
- 1937 - Lefty Gómez (pictured) records his record fifth straight World Series win without a loss and also drives in the winning run as the Yankees defeat the Giants, four games to one.
- 1967 - Tsuneo Horiuchi of the Yomiuri Giants has an amazing day, throwing a no-hitter and belting three home runs.
