• 1961 - Whitey Ford edges Warren Spahn in voting for the 1961 Cy Young Award in one of the closest votes ever.
• 1966 - Frank Robinson wins the 1966 American League MVP Award after winning the Triple Crown in the circuit. He is the first player to win an MVP Award in both the American League and National League.
• 1978 - The first Matsutaro Shoriki Award is given out, going to Yomiuri Giants veteran slugger Sadaharu Oh.
• 1999 - The Los Angeles Dodgers trade Raul Mondesi and Pedro Borbón, Jr. to the Toronto Blue Jays for Shawn Green and Jorge Nunez.
• 2004 - Jason Bay (pictured) wins the 2004 National League Rookie of the Year Award. He is the first Canadian to win a Rookie of the Year Award as well as the first member of the Pittsburgh Pirates to do so.
