- 1886 - The first trade in major league history takes place when the Cincinnati Red Stockings ship Jack Boyle and $400 to the St. Louis Browns for Hugh Nicol.
- 1908 - José Méndez throws a no-hitter for 8 2/3 innings against the Cincinnati Reds before Miller Huggins (pictured) gets a cheap single when no one covers first base.
- 1962 - The Chicago White Sox release Early Wynn. Wynn has 299 wins in the majors and is looking for #300.
- 2004 - Barry Bonds wins an unprecedented fourth straight MVP award. He extends his record of MVP titles to seven.
- 2006 - The Boston Red Sox post the highest bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka, over $51 million. It gives them the right to negotiate with the former Seibu Lions ace.
