December 27: Today's featured birthday is that of Bobby Klaus, who turns 87.
- 1905 - Two errors by Bill Dahlen (pictured) cost Christy Mathewson a perfect game, so he settles for a no-hitter. Three-Finger Brown also has a no-hitter going entering the 9th before the Giants score twice to win the 1-0 pitchers duel.
- 1930 - In the first trade of batting champions, Heinie Manush goes to the Washington Senators and the St. Louis Browns pick up Goose Goslin.
- 1973 - The Los Angeles Dodgers use an infield of Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell and Ron Cey for the first time; the quartet will spend a record 8 1/2 years together.
- 1984 - The Chicago Cubs acquire Rick Sutcliffe, George Frazier and Ron Hassey from the Cleveland Indians for Joe Carter, Mel Hall, Don Schulze and Darryl Banks. Sutcliffe will go 16-1 for Chicago and win the Cy Young Award.
- 2003 - Roger Clemens reaches two milestones in one day, becoming the 21st pitcher to 300 wins and the third to 4,000 strikeouts in a 5-2 win over the Cardinals.
