- 1900 - Kid Nichols (pictured) wins his 300th game, two months before he turns 30 years old, the youngest pitcher ever to get 300 career wins.
- 1936 - Joe DiMaggio becomes the first rookie to play in an All-Star Game, but the AL loses for the first time ever. Dizzy Dean and Carl Hubbell each work three scoreless frames for the NL in the 1936 All-Star Game.
- 1975 - Giants catcher Marc Hill tags out three runners at home plate, the first time this has been done in 70 years. He gets Ken Reitz in the 1st inning, Ron Fairly in the 6th and Bake McBride in the 7th.
- 1991 - Umpire Steve Palermo is hospitalized after being shot while coming to help someone being robbed.
- 2001 - John Halama throws the first nine-inning perfect game in the history of the Pacific Coast League.
