• 1897 - John Grimes hits a record six batters in a game.
• 1915 - Dave Davenport loses one 1-0 decision and wins another game today, becoming the only pitcher to date to be involved in two 1-0 games on the same day.
• 1954 - Joe Adcock (pictured) sets a new single-game record with 18 total bases as he homers four times and adds a double.
• 1963 - Paul Foytack allows four straight home runs - to Woodie Held, Pedro Ramos, Tito Francona and Larry Brown. He is the only pitcher to do so in the 20th Century.
• 1997 - After much discussion about where he would be headed, Mark McGwire is dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Oakland Athletics get T.J. Mathews and minor league hurlers Blake Stein and Eric Ludwick in return.
