January 15: Today's featured birthday is that of Delino DeShields, who turns 56.
- 1914 - Babe Adams (pictured) and Rube Marquard square off for 21 innings, before Larry Doyle hits a two-run homer to give the Giants the win. Adams sets the major league record, unbroken, for innings in a game without walking a hitter.
- 1934 - Babe Ruth becomes the first player in major league history to coax 2,000 walks.
- 1941 - Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak ends at 56 games, thanks in part to two fine plays by 3B Ken Keltner. DiMaggio holds the record for the longest hitting streak in major league annals.
- 1971 - Yutaka Enatsu makes history in a NPB All-Star Game, striking out nine straight Pacific League stars.
- 1974 - Bob Gibson joins Walter Johnson as the only members of the 3,000 strikeout club, when he whiffs Cesar Geronimo.
