- 1937 - Crosley Field is twenty feet under water in the worst flood in the history of Cincinnati, OH.
- 1944 - Casey Stengel is let go as manager of the Boston Braves. His reputation will be revived when he guides the New York Yankees in the 1950s.
- 1982 - The Chicago Cubs pick up a steal when they get Ryne Sandberg and Larry Bowa (pictured) from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Ivan DeJesús. Sandberg will become the top second baseman in the NL during his era.
- 2006 - Nobuhiko Matsunaka is given a seven-year contract, a new Nippon Pro Baseball record.
