- 1915 - The Cleveland, OH American League team announces that they will now be known as the "Cleveland Indians". After using many names in the past 15 years, this one will stick.
- 1922 - Benny Kauff's lawsuit to try to get back into Organized Baseball is rejected by the court.
- 1939 - Ed Barrow (pictured) is elected president of the New York Yankees.
- 1995 - The Great Kobe earthquake damages five Nippon Pro Baseball stadiums and kills over 6,000 people.
- 2014 - Kazuhiro Sasaki and Hideo Nomo become the first Major League Baseball players voted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame. Koji Akiyama rounds out this year's class.
