June 4: Today's featured birthday is that of Beau Allred, who turns 59.
- 1927 - It is announced that the Brooklyn Robins have released Zach Wheat after 18 seasons. Wheat will make the Hall of Fame.
- 1929 - Cool Papa Bell (pictured) of Cienfuegos has the only three-home run game in Cuban Winter League history. All three homers are inside-the-park homers, befitting Bell's speedy reputation.
- 1943 - Josh Gibson is hospitalized following a nervous breakdown but will recover enough to again be the top slugger in the Negro Leagues in 1943.
- 1970 - Chub Feeney becomes President of the National League.
- 1974 - Lee MacPhail replaces Joe Cronin as President of the American League.
