December 27: Today's featured birthday is that of Bobby Klaus, who turns 87.
- 1905 - Three days before he has to flee town because of assault charges, Rube Waddell (pictured) prevents a fire by throwing a burning stove from a store in Lynn, MA.
- 1916 - The Federal League's original lawsuit against the antitrust exemption of Organized Baseball is thrown out of court by Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis of the Northern District of Illinois court; a second lawsuit, filed by the Baltimore Terrapins, will fail as well, although it will go all the way to the Supreme Court.
- 1949 - Joe DiMaggio becomes the first player with a six-figure salary, signing a $100,000 deal with the New York Yankees.
- 2008 - The Tigres del Licey win their tenth Caribbean Series title, twice more than the next-best team. Ramon Ortiz turns in a relief gem in the finale and wins Caribbean Series MVP honors.
- 2013 - The Yaquis de Obregón win the 2013 Caribbean Series in a record-setting 18-inning marathon that features 18 pitchers. Doug Clark hits the deciding homer in the 18th. Luis Mendoza is named Series MVP.
