- 1915 - The New York Yankees purchase Wally Pipp from the Detroit Tigers. Pipp will man first base for the Yankees for 11 years before being unseated by Lou Gehrig.
- 1922 - Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis reinstates the previously banned Joe Harris in recognition for Harris's record of service during World War I.
- 1957 - Joe McCarthy and Sam Crawford (pictured) are selected for the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.
- 1991 - The 12 members of the board of directors of the Hall of Fame vote to ban Pete Rose from the Hall of Fame ballot unless he is reinstated by the Commissioner.
- 2009 - Adrián González hits three homers in a game of the 2009 Caribbean Series, setting a new Caribbean Series record.
