- 1969 - Ted Williams signs up as manager of the Washington Senators, ending a five-year absence from baseball.
- 1974 - Tom Seaver signs a one-year contract worth $172,500, making him the highest-paid player in major league history.
- 1986 - Rollie Fingers (pictured) declines a spring training invitation from the Cincinnati Reds as he would need to cut his mustache to fit the team's silly rules concerning personal appearance.
- 2004 - Alexander Ramos of Pinar del Rio becomes the first player in the Cuban National League to play 1,000 consecutive games.
