- 1995 - Detroit Tigers manager Sparky Anderson is put on an involuntary leave of absence due to his refusal to work with replacement players until the strike is resolved.
- 2003 - Baltimore Orioles pitcher Steve Bechler dies of multi-organ failure after collapsing following a spring training workout yesterday. The dietary supplement ephedrine is blamed for his death.
