Biographical Information

During spring training in 2003, Baltimore Orioles pitcher Steve Bechler died of heat stroke attributed to the use of a diet supplement containing ephedra. Following the discovery of his cause of death, the Food and Drug Administration moved to ban ephedra-based supplements in the United States.
