- 1887 - The National Colored Base Ball League is formed. It will be the first Negro League but will not last long.
- 1917 - Players Fraternity president Dave Fultz calls off a planned strike.
- 1935 - The Dai Nihon Tokyo Yakyu Club leaves for a tour of the USA. They will go 75-34-1, primarily facing minor league and semipro clubs.
- 1996 - Kevin McClatchy leads a new ownership group in taking over the Pittsburgh Pirates, promising to make efforts to keep them in Pittsburgh, PA.
- 2003 - The Chunichi Dragons return the rights of Kevin Millar (pictured) to the Florida Marlins for a monetary compensation. There had been much back-and-forth over Millar's rights after he reneged on a deal with Chunichi.
