- 1914 - The Philadelphia Phillies trade captain Sherry Magee to the Boston Braves and two players to be named later. Magee had led the 1914 NL in slugging and RBI but will battle injury and struggle in his first year with Boston.
- 1934 - The Dai Nihon Tokyo Yakyu Club is formed by Matsutaro Shoriki as Japan's first professional baseball team.
- 1963 - The Hanshin Tigers deal Masaaki Koyama to the Daimai Orions for Kazuhiro Yamauchi.
- 1974 - President Gerald Ford (pictured) signs legislation opening Little League to girls.
- 1979 - The Cuban national team wins its first Intercontinental Cup by taking the 1979 Intercontinental Cup with a 10-0 record. Team USA visits Cuba for the first time in three decades and wins Bronze, led by Joe Carter, Pat Dodson and Terry Francona.
