- 1911 - Hall of Fame slugger Josh Gibson is born in Buena Vista, GA. Gibson will set home run records in Cuba and Mexico in addition to his prodigious power feats in the Negro Leagues.
- 1937 - The first night game in Cuban Winter League history takes place. Marianao beats Almendares, 6-5, with Martín Dihigo (pictured) getting the win.
- 1960 - Philip Wrigley announces that the Chicago Cubs will not have a set manager next year, instead employing a college of coaches.
- 1999 - The Los Angeles Dodgers are fined $50,000 and suspended from scouting in the Dominican Republic for a year due to their signing Adrian Beltre at age 15.
- 2004 - Former NPB pitcher Hiroshi Ogawa is arrested for a murder that took place during a robbery.
