- 1976 - The 1976 Amateur World Series ends. Cuba edges Puerto Rico for the title when Puerto Rico opts to forfeit its final game.
- 1983 - The Detroit Tigers sign free agent slugger Darrell Evans (pictured); 18 teams were interested in Evans. In 1985, he will lead the American League in home runs.
- 1986 - 20-game winner Jack Morris accuses MLB owners of collusion when no one offers him a deal and he is forced to re-sign with Detroit.
- 1990 - Takeshi Yamasaki of the Chunichi Dragons goes into a burning building to save someone's life.
- 1991 - Pam Postema, a former AAA umpire, files a gender discrimination suit against the National League and American League.
