Biographical Information[edit]

Tatsuo Kato pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.

Kato was drafted by the Orix Buffaloes in the free-acquiring phase of the 2003 NPB draft, and he was 2-3 with a 5.60 ERA in 56 appearances in 2004. He set a team record by pitching 17 games in a month, and he was 3rd in appearances for the season (8 behind Yasuhiko Yabuta). Kato to a 2.31 ERA with 6 holds in 36 games in 2005, but his ERA rose to 4.76 in 13 games in 2006. He was then traded with Jun Hagiwara to the Nippon Ham Fighters for Kuniyuki Kimoto and Akio Shimizu, and he pitched 11 games with a 1.86 ERA in 2007. Kato slumped to a 8.44 ERA in 14 games in 2008, and the Fighters released him. The Yomiuri Giants picked him up, but he didn't pitch any games with the big club in 2009 then he retired.

Overall, Kato was 3-4 with a 4.52 ERA, struck out 80 and pitched 129 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
