Biographical Information[edit]

Jun Hagiwara was an infielder and pitcher in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Hagiwara hit 25 home runs in high school. The Orix BlueWave drafted him in the second round in 1991 NPB draft. He was 1 for 3 in 1996, 0 for 1 in 1997 and 0 for 2 in 1998. He was then converted from a corner infielder to a pitcher. In 2001, he tossed one inning, walking one and striking out one. He was 3-4 with 10 saves and a 2.64 ERA in 2002, allowing a .186 average with a 1.05 WHIP. He led the team with 48 appearances and tied Masanobu Okubo for the team save lead.

Jun was 1-3 with four saves, a 6.90 ERA, .328 opponent average and 2.02 WHIP in 2003, taking major steps backward. He was 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA in 33 games in 2004. The Tokyo native rebounded to 3-2 with a save, 3.89 ERA and .226 opponent average in 2005. Hagiwara was 3-4 with a 5.14 ERA in 2006.

In June 2007, he was traded with Tatsuo Kato to the Nippon Ham Fighters for Akio Shimizu and Kuniyuki Kimoto. He only pitched five games that year, with a 1-0, 5.63 record while serving up 3 homers in 8 innings. In the 2007 Japan Series, he tossed 3 shutout innings (3 K, 2 BB, 1 H) as Nippon Ham lost to the Chunichi Dragons, doing mop-up work in games 2 and 3. In 2008, he had an identical 1-0, 5.63 campaign in four times as many innings, allowing a .338 average. Hagiwara was 1-1 with a 4.81 ERA and .329 opponent average in 2009 to end his career.

Overall, the right-hander was 13-15 with 15 saves and a 4.91 ERA in 270 games pitched in NPB. His fastball peaked at 96 mph.
