Biographical Information[edit]
Tarik El-Abour signed with the Kansas City Royals as an undrafted free agent and was 0 for 6 for the 2018 AZL Royals. While some sources (see here for instance) describe him as the first professional baseball player with Autism, Jim Eisenreich had Asperger Syndrome, which was later included as a form of autism. [1] El-Abour was part of the Palestine American Baseball Team that finished second in the 2023 West Asian Baseball Cup to win a spot in the 2023 Asian Championship. [2]
In the 2023 Asian Championship, he was the first batter for a team identifying as Palestinian in an Asian Championship. He was hit by a Chun-Pui Mok pitch then stole second but was stranded. After striking out, he was plunked again in the 6th, stole and came around to score their first run. He also singled off Lai-Him Lam to drive in David Powres in the 9th. He finished the event 1-for-16 with the run and RBI, plus the two HBPs. He stole three bases in three tries and fielded very well - 15 PO, 1 A, 0 E. He tied for 6th in the event in steals. [3]
